Der VfB Stuttgart hatte im Jahr 2007 viele gute Spieler. Aber ein Garant für den Gewinn der Deutschen Meisterschaft war die Abwehr und insbesondere der Torwart. Timo Hildebrand hatte über Monate im Frühjahr 2007 nicht nur unheimlich viele "unhaltbare" Bälle gehalten, er war auch "Chef" der Abwehr und hat diese gut organisiert.

Daß er den VfB im Sommer 2007 verlassen hat, war seine Entscheidung. Diese zu respektieren ist wichtig, auch wenn es für den VfB und auch für ihn selbst rückblickend die falsche Entscheidung war.

Wenn er jetzt nicht zur EM mitdarf, hat er das aber auch sich selbst zuzuschreiben. Er hat sportlich all die Jahre sehr an sich gearbeitet, aber ihm fehlte einfach ein guter Manager, der ihn richtig "verkauft", also angepriesen hat. Schade für den VfB Stuttgart, der sich keinen Gefallen tun würde, wenn er jetzt Lehmann holt. Schade für die Nationalmannschaft und also für Deutschland. Und auch sehr schade für Timo Hildebrand selbst.

Sharia Law and Bicycle Thieves

Now I have no clue what is your opinion of the new Mayor of London, but anyway, I happened to come across an article on him today when reading the newspaper. It seems that he regularly cycles to work and he is in favour of "sharia law" to be applied to bicycle thieves.

Many people, including Muslims, misunderstand Sharia. It’s often associated with the amputation of limbs, death by stoning, lashes and other medieval punishments. Because of this, it is sometimes thought of as draconian.

Now I got myself a new bicycle a few weeks ago, for the first time in decades, and I was very proud of having done so. It was parked in front of our house, locked and all, yet it was stolen one night, barely a week after I got it. I am still trying to get over the shock. So I have to say I do agree with Boris Johnson on this count. Let’s be draconian!
