Sharia Law and Bicycle Thieves
May 14, 2008Now I have no clue what is your opinion of the new Mayor of London, but anyway, I happened to come across an article on him today when reading the newspaper. It seems that he regularly cycles to work and he is in favour of "sharia law" to be applied to bicycle thieves.
Many people, including Muslims, misunderstand Sharia. It’s often associated with the amputation of limbs, death by stoning, lashes and other medieval punishments. Because of this, it is sometimes thought of as draconian.

Now I got myself a new bicycle a few weeks ago, for the first time in decades, and I was very proud of having done so. It was parked in front of our house, locked and all, yet it was stolen one night, barely a week after I got it. I am still trying to get over the shock. So I have to say I do agree with Boris Johnson on this count. Let’s be draconian!
